AZA NIZI MAZA COLLABORATION
We are delighted to announce the launch of a new collaboration with the Aza Nizi Maza art school!
Based in Kharkiv, Ukraine — in a cavernous basement that doubles as a bomb shelter — and led by visionary artistic director Mykola Kolomiets, this remarkable organization nurtures children’s creativity and empowers them to develop their own artistic voices, with breathtaking results. Many of you may remember their phenomenal artwork from our audio-visual composition What I See, a piece that has consistently been an audience favorite.

In recent years, Aza Nizi Maza has received well-deserved recognition,
presenting their vibrant, imaginative, and monumental artwork in galleries, museums, and public installations across Europe and the United States. They are also the subject of a forthcoming feature-length documentary, set to be released later this year (trailer available here).

One of their recent highlights includes a powerful project: painting murals inside the rabbi’s house at the Babyn Yar Memorial in Kyiv, a site of one of the worst Nazi atrocities of WWII. In keeping with their commitment to inclusivity, the school currently enrolls 15 neurodivergent children, and this project was offered specifically to them — amplifying the voices of those whom the Nazis denied the right to life.

Earlier this Fall Aza Nizi Maza and Soundscape Visions launched a collaboration.
As part of it, the school has granted us access and usage rights to 14 new large-scale drawings from their Underground Garden and Lost Fairytales collections. Each image is a universe in itself, brimming with imaginative detail, and together they provide us with enough material to create a series of new audio-visual compositions — a project that will unfold over the coming years.

Aza Nizi Maza continues to be an endless source of inspiration
to us and to everyone who encounters their extraordinary art. We are honored to embark on this collaboration and cannot wait to bring the astonishing stories of Lost Fairytales and Underground Garden to life and share them with you.
Stay tuned for more details about this project, including the date of our performance next spring, where the first of these new compositions will premiere.
